The Construction Manager (CM) position is a vital position in the execution of HMS’s $300 million rolling 5-year capital plan and annual Campus Renewal program of ~$4 million through the delivery of projects. The Bauer Core Facility provides state-of-the-art instrumentation and expertise to scientists at Harvard. Our goal is to advance research efforts in the life sciences by helping researchers&nbsp;bridge the gap between science and technology so they can optimize the use of the technology in their research. Our Core Scientists consult with researchers to help them choose the best technologies for their projects and design careful experiments. We provide hands-on training and support to enable researchers to use our instruments independently and run core instruments as a service. Learn more about our facility and our team here: <a href="https://bauercore.fas.harvard.edu/" target="_blank">https://bauercore.fas.harvard.edu/</a>.<ul><li>Executes a range of complex scientific research activities in a core facility with a primary focus on flow cytometry.</li><li>Consults on experimental design, sample preparation, and analyses of flow cytometry projects.</li><li>Trains researchers on core instrumentation and protocols.</li><li>Performs sorts as a service for researchers.</li><li>Performs instrument maintenance and QC.</li><li>Interacts daily with users of the core facility. These users are technicians, undergraduate students, graduate students, post-docs, and faculty members from departments across the FAS, other Harvard schools (HMS, SEAS, HSPH, HSDM), as well as researchers from outside Harvard, mainly those from other area academic institutions, biotech, and pharma.</li><li>Works closely as part of the core staff team to ensure projects move smoothly through multiple steps and that all information is handed off properly to the next staff member involved in a project.</li><li>Partners with Research Computing and Informatics team members to help coordinate project submissions, resource reservations, software access, data analysis, and data storage.</li></ul>Basic Qualifications<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or engineering discipline and at least two years of relevant work experience; OR</li><li>A minimum of seven years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience</li></ul>Additional Qualifications and Skills<ul><li>Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, intermediate Excel skills</li><li>Excellent communication skills in the English language, both written and oral</li><li>Ability to perform highly complex experiments with high levels of reliability and accuracy within time constraints</li><li>Must possess excellent problem-solving skills</li><li>5+ years of relevant work experience in a molecular biology or similar lab conducting flow cytometry experiments. In this role, Preceptors are responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and correcting students in their learning experience, ensuring students utilize acquired skills in a practical setting. The Preceptor engages in regular feedback with the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) faculty and department chair, in both formal and informal meetings, to communicate progress in meeting student learning outcomes.
